PLASTIC FREE PACIFIC

The main project of CPN is the Plastic Free Pacific campaign - a project, working towards the practical cleanup of the plastic, collected in the pacific gyres.

We plan to do this, via trawlers and a bulk carrier, simply catching and removing the plastic in the ocean.

With just 20 boats, we could clean up the entire Great Pacific Garbage patch, in approximatley 10 years!

There are many beneftits of this approach:

• Reliable - Able to effectivley remove the plastic, at a fast rate
• Effecient - The nets used can catch a wide range of plastic sizes, even picking up small (>2mm) pieces!
• Adaptible - With crews out on the boats, the system is adaptible, and can thus avoid natural events, like planktom blooms, or jellyfish clusters.
• Safe - By using Saftey Nets, the project can avoid catching any wildlife or damaging the ecosystem - while removing the damaging plastic.

We need to see a reduction in pollution for a clean planet now and everything makes a difference, however large or small. Our projects and campaigns are all focused on taking action now and making the planet cleaner every day. 

At the moment, our main projects and campaigns are focused on plastics and the reduction of ocean pollution.

• Plastic waste diaries that track how plastic has crept into the lives of some of us at CPN, and follow us as we look for alternatives to every day plastic items. We'd also love you to join us in keeping these diaries!
• A campaign about every day plastic, encouraging producers to use a little less and consumers to hunt out alternatives.
• An ocean clean-up feasibility study, looking at the resources and cost of a simple  idea that would collect plastic waste from the ocean and integrate with other projects that share the same goals.
